“My Uncle Napoleon” (Daii Jan Napelon in Persian) is a satirical novel by Iranian author Iraj Pezeshkzad. First published in 1973, the novel is a classic of Persian literature and a beloved work in Iran. Set in the early 1940s during the Allied occupation of Iran, the story is narrated by an unnamed boy who belongs to a wealthy and eccentric Iranian family. The central character of the novel, “Uncle Napoleon,” is a humorous and larger-than-life figure who is obsessed with the idea that foreign powers, particularly the British, are conspiring against him and his family. The narrative unfolds through the eyes of the young narrator as he navigates the comical and often absurd situations created by Uncle Napoleon’s paranoia.
